Saharareporters learned that shortly after the public relations exercise that attended her return, she retired into a medically-induced bed rest that has her kept her away from the public, unable to attend to official duties.

FCT To Buy N295M Spy Balloon

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has concluded arrangement to purchase an aerial surveillance balloon from an Israeli company at the cost of $1.9 million (equivalent N295 million), documents leaked to Daily Trust have shown.
When the deal is sealed, the balloon, technically called Sky Star Tactical Aerostat System, will be launched into the skies of Abuja where it will hover covering a 6-kilometre-radius area, a defence contractor privy to the deal said.

The documents show that contract for the supply and installation of the balloon has been approved by the Bureau for Public Procurement and is now awaiting FCT Minister Bala Mohammed’s nod.

PHD, MBA Holders Among 13,000 Applicants For 1,000 Dangote Driving Jobs

In what may be shocking but true, the Dangote Group has said that PhD and MBA Holders were among the over 13,000 applicants who applied for the recent Graduate Executive Truck Driver vacancy.

The company said it was satisfied with the quality and quantity of applications they have received, stating that its plan was to empower its Graduate Executive Truck Drivers.

Chairman of the company and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote revealed this on Thursday in Abuja at a World Bank Youth Forum.

Two Men Jailed For Almost Killing Each Other Over A Girlfriend

The police on Monday [Oct. 29] arraigned two men, Richard Maza, 28, and Ndukwe Okezuo, 24, before an Abuja Area Court for allegedly disturbing public peace and causing grievous hurt over the ownership of a lady’s heart.

Amazingly, the controversial pint sized former minister of the FCT and now chieftain of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Malam Nasir Elrufai, has accused Nigerian youths of being lazy and quick to judge.

Elrufai was apparently reacting to the youths who regularly accuse him of corruption and high handedness when he was in office. FAAN insists DANA is Nigeria’s best airline despite accident killing 163

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said on Monday in Abuja that it had no regrets for choosing DANA Airline as “the best domestic carrier for 2011”.
FAAN had on Friday named DANA Air as the best domestic airline in the “Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport 2011 Staff Awards”.
The award which were in different categories, also include best staff, best airline (local and international), best oil marketer, best luggage handling company and best concessionaire.

Police shoot sales girl dead, injure 3 others

A 20-year old sales girl identified simply as Lucy, was on Friday was shot dead by policemen in the Apo area of Abuja. The girl was hit in the chest by bullets fired into a photography shop where she worked as a sales girl. Three other people sustained gunshot injuries when policemen from the FCT Police Command fired bullets indiscriminately in an attempt to enforce the demolition order of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.

The policemen had stormed the area around 7 am with officials of Development Control Department, who had come to demolish illegal structures. But residents and indigenes, who felt that the government had no right to demolish their houses when they were yet to be resettled, resisted the operation.

Nigeria’s Ailing First Lady To Return Home

A presidential jet is scheduled to fly out of Abuja tonight to bring home Nigeria’s ailing First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

Presidency sources told SaharaReporters today that Mrs. Jonathan will return to the country as early as tomorrow if everything works as planned.

Govt Approves N106 Billion For Construction Of Five New Airports

The Federal Government has approved a sum of N106 billion naira, through the Federal Executive Council (FEC), to commence the construction of five new, world-class international airports.

Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, disclosed this in Abuja during a media briefing to update stakeholders on the development in the aviation sector.

President Jonathan flies Out In Two Jets To See Ailing Wife

 

A plane with President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly left Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, several hours before the Nigerian leader was scheduled to depart to New York to attend this year’s United Nations General Assembly. SaharaReporters learnt that the secretive maneuver meant that the president was most likely headed for Germany to see his ailing wife.

“There has been a great measure of secrecy surrounding the president’s departure,” said a source close to the Presidency. “I believe that Mr. President will stop over in Germany to see the First Lady before arriving in New York.”
