LOBATAN!! The Facebook jacket that can give you a real hug when someone likes you online

The vest inflates when friends 'Like' a photo, video, or status update on the wearer's wall, which the inventors say allows us to 'feel the warmth, encouragement, support, or love that we feel when we receive hugs'.

If you’ve ever felt a ‘like’ on Facebook wasn’t quite real enough, a US designer has unveiled a jacket that hugs the wearer every time they receive one. Designed by MIT student Melissa Chow, the ‘Like-A-Hug’ is a wearable social media vest that allows for hugs to be given via Facebook, bringing us closer despite physical distance.

But Imagine a “Headline: Facebook user found crushed to death by hug jacket after posting status advising of feeling a little down and lonesome. All 1056 friends responded with a hug within minutes resulting in the tragic over-squeeze. The victim leaves behind 6 farms, 2 restaurants including a bistro and 3 unfinished scrabble games with friends.”  lol

A TRILLION LIKES

Facebook recently revealed that since the site first began, its billion members have ‘liked’ over 1.13 trillion items on the social network.

It also revealed 140.3 billion friend connections have been made, 219 billion photos shared and more than 300 million photos are uploaded uploaded daily.

It’s creator says this ‘allows us to feel the warmth, encouragement, support, or love that we feel when we receive hugs.

Hugs can also be sent back to the original sender by squeezing the vest and deflating it.

‘The project was done as an exercise and exploration in shape display,’ said Miss Chow.

‘We came up with the concept over a casual conversation about long-distance relationships and the limitations of video chat interfaces like Skype.

‘The concept of telepresence arose, and we toyed with the idea of receiving hugs via wireless technology.
