Mid (Winger) on the verge of £25m Man Utd EXIT.
Thursday, September 06, 2012-Russian side Zenit St Petersburg are closing in on the signature of out of favour Manchester United winger, Nani.
The Russian champions shocked the world of European football on Monday after stamping out 80m euros to sign FC Porto forward Hulk and Benfica midfielder Axel Witsel.
Reports indicate the Zenit club are pursuing a £25m bid for United winger Nani, who has yet to agree a new contract at Old Trafford.
The Portugal player’s representatives reportedly met Zenit counterparts in Amsterdam on Monday to iron out a deal.
“The news about Nani is true,” Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti said earlier this month.
“Everything will depend on how much players cost because we won’t pay excessive amounts of money.”
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has signaled his intent to axe the Portuguese winger after his below par display in their 1-0 defeat to Everton.
Sources reveal that the Red Devils have called off the proposed £130,000 a week new offer and insisted that the 25-year old will only leave Old Trafford if an insane offer is tabled.
“The club did not think his form at the end of last season put him in a very strong bargaining position over a new deal. Monday was hardly his best either.” The source said.
“There was an intention to get him on a new four-year contract.
“But initial demands from Nani’s side were way over the top.
“Right now United are happy to leave it until next summer unless his demands are dramatically dropped.
“But they won’t sell unless silly money comes in.”
With the high profile arrival of Dutch striker Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa, United are keen to sell to reduce their wage bill and Nani appears to be the first casualty.
