Lobatan: ‘Nigeria Can Earn N20bn From Milk Daily’

Nigeria can generate N20 billion every day from milk manufacturing alone, the Director General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Engr Umar Bindir has said. He said this yesterday when the registrar and some directors of the National Library and Registration Council of Nigeria (NLRCN) paid a courtesy visit to NOTAP in Abuja.

Engr Bindir said if Nigeria could look away from crude oil and develop the non-oil sector, most of its financial problems would be solved. He said if the country’s population of about 160 million takes a cup of N100 milk every day, a milk manufacturing company would be making about N20billion every day from selling to Nigerians alone.

Engr Bindir said the country has many cows but has unfortunately failed to establish milk manufacturing industries which would have taken many unemployed youths off the streets.

The NOTAP DG said: “Nigeria is a rich but at the same time poor country. We are rich because of three things: our population, our agro-based resources and our crude oil. But unfortunately, we have concentrated our energy on oil and even we spend all the money we get from oil without reinvesting it.”

Speaking earlier, the Registrar of NLRCN, Dr Victoria Okoje said the agency wanted to partner with NOTAP to help sell the country’s technology to the outside world.
