Dark Knight Nightmare: 14 dead, 59 injured, Crazed Gun man says ”I am the joker”
- ‘I am The Joker’
CRAZED gunman James Holmes told police: “I am The Joker,” after shooting dead 12 people as they watched the new Batman movie.
Student drop-out Holmes, 24, set off tear gas at the packed showing of The Dark Knight Rises before opening fire — wounding another 59 in Aurora, Colorado, US.
Police chief Ray Kelly said: “He said he was The Joker — Batman’s enemy.”
Holmes coolly bought a movie ticket and sat through 20 minutes of the new Batman blockbuster — before unleashing a hail of bullets.
And an elaborate bomb the maniac left for police back at his apartment could have made the horror even worse.
After the first scenes of The Dark Knight Rises unfolded, Holmes sneaked out, secretly propping a fire exit open behind him.
He went to his car and drove it back to the fire door. In the vehicle he had a deadly arsenal — an AR15 assault rifle, a Remington shotgun, and two Glock handguns.
Holmes — now wearing sinister black Robocop-style armour and a gas mask — burst back into the packed midnight screening
He set off two tear gas canisters before firing at random into the terrified crowd — which included families with young children.
Altogether 71 people were shot. Ten died on the spot and two more died in hospital. Another 59 survived with injuries. At least six of them were critically ill last night.
